The town of Sitting Duck has already dealt with Zombies and
Aliens (in past books), now its time to face a hypnotizing evil scientist, Dr.
Goode. Dr. Goode hypnotizes the entire town to elect him as the new mayor. Sam
and his friends Arty and Emmie are able to outwit the brainwashing then go the dormant
volcano where Dr. Goode lives to try to stop his world domination plans. Heavily
illustrated with illustrations and character profiles, tips, and hints.
This is over the top goofy so I found it difficult to buy into
the world. I felt like I was reading the plot of a cheesy cartoon, where the
characteristics are overly exaggerated. Those very things I disliked could make
this book very appealing to reluctant 3-4 grade readers, but the book seems SO
long and is just stuffed with characters and references to the first two books,
which actually makes it a challenging read, putting it out of reach of those
struggling readers. The cover has appeal and its fairly wholesome, so it can’t
hurt to have it in your collection, I just wasn’t that impressed with it and I
didn’t enjoy reading it.
