Rober, Harold T Woolly Mammoth. 24 pgs. Lerner,
2017. $19.99. Content: G.
This book features information about the Woolly Mammoth for a young
reader such as what it ate, why it was covered in fur, and how they are
different from an elephant. Includes photographs, renderings, and
illustrations.
This book is easy enough for a kindergarten or first grader to
read on their own. It contains quite a bit of good information, but the harder
words are defined in the back, rather than in text or via an information
bubble, which is confusing for younger readers. The photographs and
illustrations were just horrible! Some of them were sort of blurry and some
poorly drawn. The only decent re-creation is used twice. The publisher should
have paid for better images for the book. A teacher could use this for a read-aloud
as well.
