Prince (1958-2016) was an African American recording artist who crossed successfully into both the white and black music industry. He negotiated a contract with Warner Brothers when he was only 19, and maintained creative control of his music. Throughout his career he didn’t drink or do drugs and required his band members to do the same. He was one of the most entertaining performers of his time, a talented musician, songwriter, and dancer.
This short biography covers the highlights of his life and career. A nice length, well written and age appropriate. Captioned pictures on every page, it also includes a timeline, source notes and a bibliography. There are also book suggestions and links to a youtube video (completely clean and very cool) as well as a link to Rolling Stone magazine with every article they’ve published about Prince. A great biographical resource about a contemporary performing artist. Lerner Publishing has also included a valuable website with free educational resources that can easily be used in the classroom.
