Bad Kitty Takes the Test by Nick Bruel - OPTIONAL

Bruel, Nick  Bad Kitty Takes the Test, 144 pgs. GRAPHIC NOVEL  Roaring Book Press, 2017.  $13.99  Content: G.

Bad Kitty has to take a course on how to be a cat.  If he doesn’t pass the test at the end of the class then he will lose his license to be a cat.  There are other cats in the class as well as Uncle Murphy.  They watch a video and then take really long written tests in preparation for the actual test.  When it is time to take the final exam, a chicken comes in and tries to fail them all but they miraculously pass the test (which was really a test about being a chicken).

All three of my kids (ages 7-13) love Bad Kitty.  We own the whole graphic novel series, but this book was super disappointing.  It has the usual adorable drawings but the story line was boring.  It is more a book about how ridiculous tests can be than it was about the character of Bad Kitty.  The chickens were also very random.

EL (K-3), EL – OPTIONAL.  Reviewer, C. Peterson.
