The Boy Who Fell Off the Mayflower by P.J. Lynch - ESSENTIAL

Lynch, P.J. The Boy Who Fell Off the Mayflower or John Howland’s Good Fortune pg. 64 Candlewick Press 2015 Language: (0 swears, 0 “f”); Mature Content-G; Violence: G;

The story of the Mayflower is often portrayed the Pilgrims got on a boat and made it to the New World.  This breathtaking picture book portrays the real life experience of the people who came across on the Mayflower. The illustrations in this book are breathtaking. It’s the same illustrator that did The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey.  I cannot get enough of them.  It is written in first person about John Howland was was an indentured servant and sailed on this historic ship.  It begins in England and concludes shortly after the First Thanksgiving.   John was blessed to survive the crossing of the Atlantic many passengers were no so lucky.

It’s interested to see this story told from a teenage perspective.  I was amazed at how much I learned about this historic story.  This is a must have for every library.
