Milisic, Roman. Apes a Go-Go!, PICTURE BOOK. Alfred A. Knopf, 2014. $16.99. There was a very tidy town that is about to participate in the Tidiest Town Competition. Unfortunately, there was just one thing out of place. When the mayor noticed his accepted the help of Fussy Great Ape who was passing by, but he made a bigger mess than before. Other apes with the ability to fix particular things as their specialities are called in to help, but with each ape, something else gets ruined. The apes start to put the town back together, not as perfectly as before, but the Mayor decides that it’s ok if it’s not perfect because it’s nice to have worked together to fix it. I felt like the point of this book wasn’t highlighted enough. The emphasis seemed to be on attempting to have the ape call, “Bogo! Pogo! Apes A-Go-Go!” catch on, rather than on focusing on how perfection isn’t always what’s best and that there is more to life. EL (K-3)- OPTIONAL. Reviewed by Shay, School Librarian
