Ellis, Elina. The Big Adventure, PICTURE BOOK. Little Bee Books, 2015. $16.99. Content: G. Moose, Fox, Chicken, and Bear have decided that they should go on an adventure. They each want to go somewhere very far, except for Chicken. Chicken just wants to go to the next village over the hill to visit his Auntie. They all do some planning and some packing but each of the animals (except for Chicken) are very nervous about going someplace so new and so far. The day of the trip arrives and they set out. Once over the hill they each want to know how far it is until their final, wild destination. Each place is very far, but luckily, Chicken’s auntie’s house is just in sight. While having lunch at her house, they all determine that they are very brave and adventurous. The story is simple and cute and highlights that even when it seems like something will be very hard, sometimes baby steps are what we need to meet our goal. I liked how the chicken seemed to be the logical voice in the back of everyone’s mind that reassured all the others. We all need that voice too. PRE-K, EL (K-3) -ADVISABLE.
