Raczka, Bob Guyku: A Year of Haiku for Boys, illustrated by
Peter H. Reynolds. PICTURE BOOK Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2010. $7.
9781328869302
Twenty four different
haikus are broken up into the four seasons.
All of the haikus are about what little boys can do in the different
seasons. They all are about playing
outside whether climbing a tree, building a snowman or skipping rocks.
This is an adorable book of poetry and I love
that it’s geared towards boys. My nine year
old son liked this book because they just learned about haiku poetry and he found the poems funny and true. The
illustrations are of course adorable because Reynolds does a great job. At the end there is an explanation by the
author and the illustrator that further explains what haiku poems are and why they
did this book. Great addition for a poetry
unit for elementary age kids.
