Truthwitch by Susan Dennard - OPTIONAL

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard, 416 pages. Tor Teen 2016. Language: PG-13 (9 swears, 0 ‘f’) Mature Content: PG Violence: PG-13
HS- OPTIONAL.

Best friends Safi and Iseult are two very different witches in a world where being a witch means being used for your power and having your fate decided for you, but they long to carve out a place for themselves in the world together. Safi is a Truthwitch, a special kind of truth teller that everyone in the Witchlands wants to politically abuse, and Iseult vows to be her protector but fights with demons from her own past. When a murderous Bloodwitch with a political agenda discovers Safi’s identity, the two girls must run for their very lives.

Truthwitch is a very standard young adult fantasy that is light on world building and character development but successful in its thrilling pace and compelling action sequences. If the reader goes into without the expectation of storyline complexity, they won’t be too disappointed with what they do get. The characters are all extremely likeable and the focus on girl friendship is lovely.
