Larsen, Andrew The Man Who Loved Libraries: The Story of
Andrew Carnegie. PICTURE BOOK.
Illustrated by Katty Maurey. OwlKids,
2017. $19.
Andrew Carnegie immigrated to the US when he was twelve, where
he and his father worked long hours in a cotton mill. But Andrew loved to learn and little by
little he learned and earned until he reached a point when he could turn around
and make learning easier for other through building public libraries – 2500 in
all.
Any librarian will of course love this book. It would work well as a beginning biography
and includes source material for further research. I’m not completely sold on
the illustrations, but I like the narrative very much.
