Hanson, Faye Midnight at the Zoo, PICTURE BOOK. Templar,
2016. $17.
Max
and Mia get to go on a school field trip to the zoo. When they finally arrive,
there are no animals to be found! After they are accidently left behind they
discover the amazing things that the zoo animals get up to at night and have a
wild adventure.
This
is a darling book with a ton of imagination –especially the illustrations which
are so amazing. From the perspective of a school library, I would like to think this book wouldn't encourage young readers to hide during a field trip in hopes of the opportunity that Max and Mia get. I personally don’t care for zoos and feel incredibly bad
for the animals that are trapped in them, their life is certainly no fantasy as picture here. Because of my personal bias, I would probably more inclined to
use library money to pick books about habitat preservation, animal
conservation, and animal rehabilitation.
