Miller, Sarah Caroline: Little House Revisited, 363
pages. William Morrow (Harper),
2017. $26. Language: G; Violence: G;
Mature Content: PG-13 (intimate relations between married couple)
As Caroline Ingalls packs her family home to leave the Big
Woods for Kansas and Indian Territory, she is sad to leave all of her family
behind and worried for the new life she carries within. As she, Charles, Mary, and Laura first make
their way across and the wilds and start carving out a life completely from
scratch, Caroline has to rise to each new challenge in a way no modern mother
can ever fully understand. Along the way
there is kindness and love to leaven the challenges.
Hardcore fans of the Little House books who are themselves
now parents might enjoy this. It is not
as smooth as or delightful as the originals.
But the tone suits a book written from the perspective of an adult.
ADULT – OPTIONAL.
