Pete the Cat: Trick or Pete by James Dean - ADVISABLE

Dean, James.  Pete the Cat: Trick or Pete.  Harper Festival, 2017.  $6.99.  Content: G.  PICTURE BOOK.
Pete the Cat is ready to trick or treat, he has his superhero costume on.  He’s a little scared, but his dad says not worry, that they have a flashlight.  So, when they see a spooky shadow, they shine the flashlight and it’s only an owl.  The scary shape in the yard is just a scarecrow.  The glowing faces are just jack-o-lanterns.  And the ghost is really grandma.  Happy Halloween!

This story is perfect for a lift-the-flap book.  Every time Pete thinks something is scary, they shine the light on it (lift-the-flap) and see that there is no reason to be scared.  A great way to help children understand that Halloween decorations and costumes are just for fun and they don’t have to be scared of them.
Pre-K, EL-ADVISABLE.  Samantha Hastings, MA, MLS.
