Saxby, Claire Emu, illustrated by Graham Byrne. PICTURE BOOK. Candlewick Press, 2014. $16.99. Content: G.
This text uses both fiction and nonfiction to describe the life of an emu. The left-hand pages tell the story of a particular male emu taking care of his eggs, while the right-handed pages use a different font and less-descriptive voice to explain general facts about these giant birds.
This mix not only provides plenty of information but also develops more empathy for emus. The often-gorgeous illustrations complement the text well. A nice addition to a library's animal books collection.
