Stick dog and his friends really want apples from the orchard
but have never been able to get them. When a workman comes to the park, Karen
the dog drinks his coffee and when Stick Dog tries to save her from discovery
by the man, the other dogs think Stick Dog was trying to eat Karen! Stick dog
must prove himself and is able to get donuts for the other dogs. Now they want
more, but Stick Dog has a better plan, to use the workman’s special truck to
get apples down from the tree’s, will his plan work?
I will admit to laughing out loud at this one, as the dogs are
worried that the jelly filled donut is alive, since it leaks red liquid. But again,
I think this could book could have easily been much shorter, so it could more accessible
to those younger grade readers who would enjoy the simple characters and their
junk food obsession. Older readers who this format and size would appeal to,
even lower level readers, would be bored by the plotline. Not my favorite book
to read.
