Olive and Beatrix are twin sisters, one is a normal girl and one
is a witch. They like to play tricks on each other, but its harder for Olive because
she can’t use magic. So Olive and her best friend play a trick with spiders and
thanks to Beatrix’s magic, things go awry.
This is a very very simple chapter book. Its filled with images
and easy to read for a new reader. I really love this book except for a couple
of big things. The first is the spider trick, I honestly worry a child my think
its an ok trick to dump a bunch of spiders on someone’s head. I know books are
not reality but I don’t like to promote such abhorrent things to such
young readers. Additionally the magical twin threatens revenge with magic, revenge
is also not such a great concept for first graders either. So close yet so far.
