Frank and Lucky Get Schooled by Lynne Rae Perkins - NO

Perkins, Lynne Rae  Frank and Lucky Get Schooled  Greenwillow Books, 2016 (HarperCollins).  $17.99  PICTURE BOOK  Content: G.

A little boy named Frank and his black dog named Lucky have a lot in common and they love each other.  When Frank goes to school he learns all sorts of new things, and while Lucky is at home he learns new things from nature.  When they are back together they teach each other what they have learned as Frank talks about what he has learned and Lucky shows Frank new discoveries.

The idea behind this book is that what kids learn at school can be applied to life, but the author takes on too big a scope of topics.  She tries to connect art, math, science, etc. by picking specific elements of those subjects and it’s too overwhelming.  The illustrations are mediocre with too much going on and my six year old son told me after three pages that it was boring and he wanted me to read something else—not a good sign.
