Stiefvater, Maggie, Tessa Gratton, and Brenna Yovanoff The Curiosities: A Collection of Stories, 304 pgs. Carolrhoda Books, 2012. $17.95. Content: R.
A collection of unedited short stories by three young adult authors, along with notes in the margins providing the authors' commentaries on each other's stories and on their own. The collection is diverse, especially as the authors try to emulate different styles or touch on a variety of topics, but many focus on the paranormal.
The entire collection has a fun, experimental feel to it, especially with the authors' marginalia. Would be particularly interesting for budding writers who want to see how published authors think, or for those who are already fans of the authors' previous works. Due to the special nature of the book -- the unedited writing, the notes in the margins, and the short story format -- the audience may be limited. Therefore, the book may be better suited to a public library setting, where adults can also have access to it, expanding the readership.
