I am Not a Copycat! by Ann Bonwill - ADVSIABLE
Bonwill, Ann. I am
Not a Copycat! Illustrated by Simon
Rickerty. PICTURE BOOK. Atheneum Books for Young Readers (Simon &
Schuster), 2013. $15.99. Content: G.
Hugo the Hippo and Bella the Bird are back (I Don’t Want to be a Pea!) and Hugo is determined to be unique.
The only problem is that Bella keeps copying everything that Hugo
does. Hugo is practicing his water
ballet and Bella mimics his moves. Before
Hugo knows it, Bella is wearing an identical swimsuit. Bella wants to be unique (just like
Hugo). Hugo is initially annoyed, but realizes
sometimes it’s okay to be the same and other times it’s great to be
unique. Any child with a younger sibling
will relate to Hugo’s frustration in having a small copycat. The illustrations are cozy, fun, and of
course, entirely unique.
