Sandler, Martin W. The Dust Bowl: Through the Lens: How Photography Revealed and Helped Remedy a National Disaster, 90 p. Walker and Company, 2009. Through 44 short vignettes, each including at least two historic photographs, a quote and a description, the author not only explores the history and imact of the Dust Bowl, but also shows how photographers from the era had a direct impact upon how the disaster was handled. My 8th grade teachers are already planning on using this book next year when they study “Out of the Dust”. W are going to buy two copies of the book and make a card set and the students will practice summarizing, note-taking, making connections and such things. I can’t wait! MS – ESSENTIAL.
