Shelton, Paula Young Child of the Civil Rights Movement illustrated by Raul Colon 42 pgs. Schwartz & Wade Books, 2010. PICTURE BOOK/NON-FICTION. $17.99. Remembering what it was like in her youth, Shelton shares her memories of the Civil Rights Movement. She recalls what it was like to have dinner with "uncle" Martin and "aunt" Coretta and other prominent figures of the Civil Rights Movement. She describes her feelings as she participated in the march from Selma to Montgomery. Combined with the text and illustrations, this would be a great book to use when discussing the Civil Rights Movement as it includes short biographies of the people discussed at the back of the book and is told from the perspective of a young child during that time period.
