At First Sight by Catherine Hapka

Hapka, Catherine. At First Sight, 245 pgs. Simon Pulse, 2010. $6.99. Sexual Content-PG; Languag-PG (6 swears); Violence-G. Riley and her “bff” Britt disagree about love at first site. Lauren believes that first impressions are based only on the physical, until she has a brief encounter with the man of her dreams on a field trip to the planetarium. Before they can share their names, or even get a good look at each other in the dim light, a “stern scientist lady” makes Lauren go back to her group. With the help of Britt, Lauren finds out that Riley has posted about the “Planetarium Girl” on his Facebook page. Lauren goes to his page only to find dozens of imposters. How can she convince him that she is the real Planetarium Girl? The book bursts with clichés and pop culture references. By no means great literature, but it will no doubt appeal to its target audience of teen girls looking for light romance. MS/HS – ADVISABLE. Samantha, Public Librarian.
