Painting Pepette by Linda Ravin Lodding -- OPTIONAL

Lodding, Linda Ravin Painting Pepette, illustrated by Claire Fletcher. PICTURE BOOK. Little Bee Books (Bonnier Publishing), 2016. $17.99. Content: G.

Josette lives in Paris in the 1920s. When she realizes that her family doesn't have a portrait of her pet rabbit, Josette sets off to Montmartre to find the perfect artist. But none of the paintings is quite right -- until Josette realizes that she knew the perfect artist all along.

The illustrations in this one are lovely, and it is a nice introduction to the styles of Picasso, DalĂ, Chagall, and Matisse as long as there's a lot of teacher support. Still, it lacks the spark to be a truly compelling picture book, and the ending feels disappointingly predictable.
