Can We Help? Kids Volunteering to help with their Communities by George Ancona –ADVISABLE

Ancona, George Can We Help? Kids Volunteering to help with their Communities Candlewick, 2015. $16.99 NON-FICTION/PICTURE BOOK
Well the title is very self-explanatory. Some example of how kids are helping in their community are: knitting hats for the homeless, growing food at a community garden, delivering meals, and training assistance dogs. Numerous large, bright, and modern photographs are included on each page.
This is a wonderful book to inspire children to volunteer. I can think of a few teachers that would love to read this book to their class to introduce yearly volunteer projects. The examples are very realistic and make it simple for kids to see that there are opportunities for them to help out close to home. It would be essential if it gave students more of an idea about how to get each type of project started.
