Olivia Counts Down to Christmas
Illustrated by Shane L. Johnson.
Simon Spotlight, 2012.
$6.99 PICTURE BOOK Content: G.
Olivia makes a list of ten things that she wants to do
before Christmas comes in ten days.
Each day she does something “Christmasy” such as mail a letter to Santa,
help her dad string Christmas lights, help her family put up the tree, go
caroling, handout cards to her friends, make ornaments and visit her
grandma. She approaches each
activity with her usual Olivia gusto and spreads Christmas cheer to her friends
and family. The last page of the
book shows Olivia’s mom tucking Olivia in the night before Christmas. Olivia’s mom thanks Olivia for all of
her help.
This is a typical Olivia
book with bright illustrations and an easy to follow storyline. The countdown to Christmas is all of
the basic preparations for the holiday and Olivia’s excitement is cute. I like the way she treats her family
and I think she is a good example of how to be a help around the house. There are better Christmas books out
there, but if you have readers who like Olivia they will enjoy this book as
well.
