The Waking: Spirits of the Noh (Book 2) by Thomas Randall -ADVISABLE

Randall, Thomas The Waking: Spirits of the Noh (Book 2), 272 pgs. Bloomsbury USA Childrens, 2011. $9.34. (Language-G, Violence-PG13; Sexual Content-G.)
In the first book of the series, Kara and her friends have been cursed by a demon. Now students at their school have started to disappear, so they fear the curse is coming true. When Kara's Best friend Miho goes missing too, this close-knit group of friends must take action. Will anyone believe them? How do they face yet another demon and win?
Set in modern day Japan, the cultural infusion is subtle, adding an interesting and intriguing backdrop. Although a second book in the series, this book can function as a stand-alone, although I think it would drum up requests for the whole trilogy. The author skillfully presents quite a few distinct personalities, daily life events, and culture ties -resulting in a well construction multi-layered horror story that is hard to put down. I think students will enjoy this peek at Japanese high school life and danger.
