Pirate vs. Pirate by Mary Quattlebaum- ADVISABLE

Pirate vs. Pirate: The Terrific Tale of a Big, Blustery Maritime Match Quattlebaum, Mary.  Boiger, Alexandra.  PICTURE BOOK. Hyperion Book CH, 2011. $16.99.

EL (K-3).  ADVISABLE.

“Bad Bart is the biggest, burliest boy pirate in the Atlantic.  Mean Mo is the maddest, mightiest girl pirate in the Pacific.  When they meet in the middle, it’s a no-holds-barred contest to see which one is the best pirate in the world.  After swimming with the sharks, hurling cannonballs, and eating hardtack, it comes down to who has the most pieces of treasure.  Will one pirate edge the other off the plank?”

This is a great book with a twist near the end and a surprise ending.  We enjoyed the illustrations as well as the compassion and emotion in this wonderful book!
