Small, Lily Poppy the Pony Fairy Animals of Misty Wood). CHAPTER BOOK. Henry Holt & Co., 2016. $5.99. Content: G.
Poppy would love nothing more than to make a friend, but she suffers from extreme shyness. When Poppy's mom makes her go off on her own one day, she discovers a kitten in need. Poppy's good deed leads to her making not one, but many friends.
Shyness is a topic that definitely needs to be addressed in books, and so I had a lot of hope for this one. Unfortunately, Poppy's sudden "curing" feels abrupt and inorganic. Unfortunately, it takes more than saving a kitten in order to suddenly overcome debilitating shyness and make a dozen new friends in a single day. Perhaps this could have been overlooked had the plot itself been more scintillating, but the story moved fairly slowly and with little action.
