Hancocks, Helen William Heads to Hollywood. PICTURE BOOK.
Templar Books, 2016. $16.99. Content: G.
William is a detective cat who is
hired by a hot Hollywood starlet to crack an urgent case—the statues for a big
awards show have been stolen. Along with the starlet, William investigates
throughout the Hollywood studio, rubs elbows with stars, and eventually finds
the culprit and solves the case. He’s given a special “Golden Cuckoo” as a
reward, and then goes on to pursue a second career in the movies.
I really
wanted to like this book but it was tough sell. The story is weak and has absolutely
no surprises—which seems wrong for a detective story. The illustrations are
fine but not extraordinary. I imagine those who are great lovers of both film
and cats might like this story, but its not going to really impress any
audience.
