Brown, Margaret Wise. The Whispering Rabbit, PICTURE BOOK. Penguin Random House, 2017. $4.99. ISBN: 978-0399555183
A little rabbit is so tired. He yawns widely and a bee flies right into his mouth! The rabbit swallows the bee and the bee promptly falls asleep. All the little rabbit can now do is whisper. He can’t figure out how to get the bee out. He asks some of his animal friends for advice. They tell him to wake up the bee, but to do it, the rabbit has to make a sound even quieter than a whisper. He tries all sorts of sounds and eventually discovers how to make the sound of bees enjoying nectar in the springtime. The bee immediately wakes up and flies away so that the rabbit can finally rest.
This is an updated version of Margaret Wise Brown’s story. The pictures are very soft and appealing, with a lot of detail. They match the night time, dream-like quality of the text. In Little Golden Book format.
