Rice, Clay The Stick.
PICTURE BOOK. Familius,
2014. $17.
The odd-looking stick in the park was the fuel needed to
ignite the lonely boy’s imagination. The
stick helped him realize his dreams until he was an old man and it was time to
pass the stick to new hands.
Rice’s silhouette art is a perfect foil to this story about
imagination. I love books like this that
show children to power of imagination on ordinary objects, like Antoinette
Portis’ Not a Box. There can’t be enough
of these books. There can always be
fewer technological babysitters, though.
