Survival Colony 9 by Joshua Bellin - ADVISABLE

Bellin, Joshua David  Survival Colony 9, pgs. 325. Margaret K. McElderry Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing Division , 2014.  $18.99.  Language:  G (0 swears),  Violence: PG.

This is yet another post-apocalyptic young adult novel.  Querry Genn, the central character, is a 14 year-old boy who lost his memory from a traumatic accident 6 months prior.  He lives with his dad, Laman Genn, the grizzled and tough leader of the 51 people that make up Human Survival Colony 9.  Earth was almost decimated because of, wait for it, a huge end-of-the-world war.  The survivors live a nomadic, desert existence, always on the run from the skaldi.  Skaldi are alien creatures that feed on humans and then take over their bodies.  Once the skaldi has taken over a human, it is very hard to tell whether it is human or skaldi.  Querry has many questions.  He can’t remember who he is or how he came to be in Survival Colony 9.  He knows his dad isn’t telling him everything and he needs to figure out what is really going on.

I can recommend this book even though it is another post-apocalyptic YA novel.  For me, it was an attention-getter with plot twists and turns galore.  A male central character was also a plus.  It was action-packed with not a single swear!
