This book is narrated by Spike, a cartoon cactus and his crew of darling potted plants. They take us on an exploration of the amazing power of plants. Starting with their most important power of creating oxygen, then moving on to surviving in challenging environments, fighting off creatures who want to eat them, and even to traveling. The potted plants provide interjections which act as comic relief. A fun balance between sharp clear photos and adorable cartoon illustrations. Tons of text variation and interesting things to look at.
Where have you been all my life? What a great mix of stunning photography, fun illustrations and comedy. I really felt like I was watching a fun yet informative tv program for kids. The information was perfectly organized and geared for 1-3 graders. Students will even check out this one on their own because the cover is so stellar and it’s a fun read. Teachers will be very interested in using this book as a read-aloud or curriculum supplement as well. Going instantly into my library collection. I am even going to check out other books by this author right away.
