Rockwell, Lizzy. A Bird is a Bird, PICTURE BOOK. Holiday
House, 2015. $16.95. Content: G.
Many traits of bird classification are
considered in this beautifully illustrated picture book. Multiple birds are
presented to show the variety in sizes, colors, habitats, and feeding habits.
Each bird presented is labeled with the correct name and is drawn in a
realistic, appealing style. A few other non-bird animals with similar traits
(lays eggs, flies, has a beak) are also mentioned, but the author demonstrates
why they are not considered birds.
This book reminded me a little of Chickens
Aren’t the Only Ones, by Ruth Heller, but in a really fresh, agreeable way.
What a great title to use in the science curriculum.
