Riordan, Rick Throne of Fire, 452 p. Disney, 2011. $19. Violence: PG.
The Kane siblings are bound and determined to create trouble for themselves. After they sent out their plea for help last year, about two dozen young magicians have gathered at Brooklyn House for training. After Sadie finds out there is less than a week before their enemies make their next move in their gambit to end the world, she insists she is still going off the London to have a proper birthday bash with her girlfriends. And Carter knows that both he and his sister are needed for the final confrontation, but when he learns where the real Zia is being held, he is determined to walk right into the trap. Full of bravado, an enormous amount of power, a few well-placed friends and sheer willpower, the Kane sibs will rock their way through the next phase of their terrible quest.
You may think that they are about to die at any moment and some times you may want them to die, but don’t ever count these two out. They are audacious and funny and brave. And Riordan is brilliant!
