The Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon –NOT RECOMMENDED

Fallon, Leigh The Carrier of the Mark, 352 pgs. HarperTeen, 2011. $8.99. Language-PG (Swear Count: 4s); Violence-G; Sexual content: PG.
Megan is the new girl in school. Everyone is nice and she makes a few friends right away. But the guy Megan feels immediately drawn to, the dark and brooding Adam, is either avoiding her or just not very friendly. After a dangerous incident where Adam saves her, they start down a path of romance. Adam reveals he has been avoiding her on purpose, that they shouldn’t be together, but he can’t deny it anymore. Megan finds out that they share more than romance and that they have a magical future ahead. That is, if they can stay hidden from those who would try to harness their powers.
Does any of that sound familiar? Although many teen magical romances would have a similar theme, this book was a poorly echoed repeat of a more entertaining work. The romance felt awkward and contrived, promoting some of the cheesiest lines I have read to date. The magical element seemed glossed over in order to progress other plot elements, which was unfortunate. Despite the popular genre and themes, I don’t recommend.
