Keah Robinson is the head cheerleader and is dating the star running back of Southside High’s football team. The two almost seem fated to be a couple. However, the stress of college and getting picked for a college team are starting to get to Ty. He’s become verbally and physically abusive towards Keah. He even gets arrested for assault. To make matters worse, the school is spreading rumors about her deserving Ty’s abuse. Stress and pressure make Keah want to forgive him and make things work, but how can one make it work when you flinch away from your boyfriend when he gets angry? Will Keah find the courage to figure out what she needs and achieve it?
A hard book to read, but an important read for any girl who’s dating. The characters are memorable. The problems are portrayed realistically. Readers who like realistic fiction, books about relationships, and urban fiction will enjoy reading this book. MS, HS. ADVISABLE. Reviewer: Kira M, Youth Services Librarian, WHI Public Library.
