Davis, Nicola Gaia Warriors, 192 pgs. Candlewick, 2011. $11.24. NON-FICTION
The first part of this book is an informational dialogue and tutorial on climate change. The second part is on ‘Gaia warriors’, which are people who are fighting to understand, treat, and prevent climate change.
This book contains a lot of information but very few meaningful visual representations to help explain the sometimes complex text. As for the ‘Gaia warriors’, I am sure are interesting people, but the text about them was so boring that it was all I could do to make it through their individual sections. A variety of fonts, text sizes, and colors were used to attempt to bring this book to life. The items highlighted in such ways were so random that they may as well have been chosen at random. I think this book was trying to be more inspirational than instructional, but the overall poor quality of writing and the poor presentation of information would preclude me from recommending this book.
MS, HS – NOT RECOMMENDED. Reviewer: Stephanie MLS graduate.
