Travesty, Shrill The Taking Tree, illustrated by Lucy Ruth Cummins. Simon and Schuster, 2010. 16.99. PICTURE BOOK. A very different little boy and a very different tree make for a very nice parody of Shel Silverstein’s iconic picture book (which is a parody itself, even if most people don’t seem to understand that). The little boy gets exactly what he deserves. Older students who understand the use of parody will get much more out of this. Show this to a high school Language Arts teacher. HS – ADVISABLE. GIFT.
