Polar Regions (About Habitats Series) by Cathryn Sill –ESSENTIAL

Sill, Cathryn Polar Regions (About Habitats Series) Peachtree, 2015. $16.95 PICTURE BOOK/NON-FICTION

This book features very simple information for younger grades about the polar regions. Where they are, what the land is like, the weather, the animals and more. It doesn’t get too technical for example instead of mentioning Adaption, it simply states “they have special ways to survive the cold temperatures”. Each facing page features illustrations of the habitat and animals.

A wonderful introduction or accompaniment to a lesson plan for K-2 grade. Although I think students would respond more enthusiastic to photographs, I still loved this book. Many students could read this on their own. The illustrations feature animals large enough that students can guess what they are. The harmonious painted imagery is just stunning, especially the one of the Aurora Australis.
