Julian's Grandmère recounts her experience hiding from the Nazis in France. Taken into hiding after being separated from the other Jewish students in school, Sara hides in a family's barn cared for by a classmate and his parents.
R.J. Palacio is both author and illustrator, telling a poignant and heartbreaking story. The illustrations are in color, the panels well designed to tell as much story as the text. Loved the connection to events this generation is experiencing, making it relevant, with the hope that what happened in Europe during the war never happens again. Includes Author's Note, Glossary, suggested reading, bibliography and sources for more information about the Holocaust.
