The Thrifty Guide to Ancient Rome by Jonathan Stokes - ESSENTIAL

The Thrifty Guide to Ancient Rome : A Handbook for Time Travelers by Jonathan W. Stokesillustrated by David Sossella 127 pages. NON FICTION Viking (Penguin) 2018 $14.

MS - ESSENTIAL

Premise: It’s 2164 and time travel is possible. This is a guidebook provided by Time Corp for travelers to Ancient Rome giving them background on the events they will see, specific dates to travel to and what is happening on those dates. They get an overview of living conditions, what people are wearing, entertainment, wars and important people.

Includes information on people like Julius Caesar, Cleopatra (there's a part that takes place in Egypt because it's relevant) Crassus, Hannibal, Mark Antony and many many others. So full of great information, which is delivered in a humorous, illustrated travel guide. My goodness, I wish I could time travel, I know just where to go and what to avoid. I hope I can get kids to try these, because if you read one, you'll want to read them all - so far this one and American Revolution, and coming in September Ancient Greece! An excellent history of the place and time. Includes a bibliography for those who feel they need more information.
