A short
quirky biography of Sun Ra, the famous Jazz Musician. Details about changing
his name, learning music, and performing. Featuring flowing blurry bright
illustrations.
I can
see how a music teacher doing a unit on Jazz music could make use of this book.
But as a biography it would be confusing and unappealing for children to read
on their own. It makes the supposition that Sun Ra is from Saturn, which
children would buy into as fact. There are no photographs, which can be off
putting when students are interested in an adults life, they want to see them
as kids.
