Macaulay, David, Castle. Pgs. 80. Houghton Mifflin
Harcourt, 2013. $19.99. INFORMATION.
Ever wondered what life would be like inside a castle? Or
how they were kept running? With all-new full color illustrations and updated
text, this new edition gives an in-depth look at castle life. Although a vast
improvement from previous editions, the muted colors are not ideal for engaging
the reader, but are effective in portraying the time period. The complex
diagrams and large spreads throughout the book are helpful and informative. The
layout is well-done and doesn’t overwhelm the reader. With an included
comprehensive glossary, readers who have a report on Castles or who enjoy
reading about the Middle Ages will love this newly updated edition. EL (4-6),
MS. ADVISABLE. Reviewer: Kira M, Youth Services Librarian, WHI Public Library.
