Edwards, Michelle,
ill. By Charles Santoso, Max Makes a
Cake. Pgs. 24. Random House, 2014. $17.99. PICTURE BOOK.
As Passover Seder comes up, Max is excited to take a part in
the dinner by asking the questions he’s supposed to ask as part of the
tradition. This year, however, he want to make his mom a Passover birthday
cake, but his annoying little sister won’t stop crying and take her nap. Will
Max figure out a way to make the cake himself?
The pictures are cute and well-done. Although the text is
not well-written and could use a little more editing, the story itself was cute
and engaging. Parents seeking a read aloud about the Passover or a birthday
story will enjoy reading this book with their children. PreK, EL (K-3).
OPTIONAL. Reviewer: Kira M, Youth Services Librarian, WHI Public Library.
