Hapka, Catherine Pony Scouts: The Camping Trip, illustrated by Anne Kennedy. HarperCollins, 2014. $3.99. Content: G
Meg has no idea what to expect when she goes on her first ever camping trip. There are bugs, but she doesn't have bug spray. There's a five-minute walk to the bathroom, but she doesn't want to go that far. There's a tent to put up, but she doesn't know how to make the poles go where she needs them to be. But camping does have its perks, including some pony riding, a satisfying meal of hot dogs roasted over the campfire, and a ghost story with friends.
It's fun to watch Meg get over her camping ineptness and learn how to spend a few hours outdoors, although die-hard Pony Scouts fans may be disappointed at how little space the ponies take up in this addition to the series.
