For the Good of Mankind by Vicki Oransky Wittenstein-ADVISABLE

Wittenstein, Vicki Oransky, For the Good of Mankind?, pgs. 96. Twenty-First Century Books, 2014.$35.93. INFORMATION.
How did human experimentation start? What kinds of experiments did they perform? Many of these experiments had a lot of benefits and discoveries, but many were done without the person’s consent. Many died. How do doctors balance between the rights of humans and the need to better mankind? This book addresses this and other controversial issues related to experimentation and more.

A no rose-colored glasses approach to the realities of experimentation, war and other factors that went in to deciding whether or not it’s ethical. Although it doesn’t take a very objective approach, considering the topic, this would be hard to do. The layout is easy to follow. The text is lengthy, but informative. Readers who need to read a non-fiction book or who are interested in human experimentation might enjoy reading this book. MS, HS. ADVISABLE. Reviewer: Kira M, Youth Services Librarian, WHI Public Library.
