The File on Angelyn Stark by Catherine Atkins-ADVISABLE
Atkins, Catherine. The File on Angelyn Stark, 250 pgs. Random House Books, 2011. $16.99. Language R (29 swears, 4 ‘f’), Sexual Content PG-13, Violence PG.
Angelyn grew up with an abusive stepfather, and a mother who doesn't want to believe it. She feels guilt and pain on a daily basis, and handles it by rebelling at school and towards her mother. When a teacher, Mr. Rossi, tells Angelyn that she is smart and has potential, she latches on to him and craves his affection. I thought this was a good read. It’s hard to imagine being sexually abused by someone that you’re close to, and then the betrayal one would feel when people around you didn't believe it when you told them.
High School- ADVISABLE.
