The Cloak Society by Jeramey Kraatz-ADVISABLE

Kraatz, Jeramey, The Cloak Society. HarpeCollins, 2012. pgs. 278.

Language; G, Violence: PG, Sexual Content: PG

All of his life, Alexander Knight has been training to be a supervillain. Born with the unique ability of telekinesis and with a lineage of powerful supervillains, Alex has a lot of expectation to live up to. The High Council has a grand plan to infiltrate the Rangers of Justice’s Justice Tower and steal back a dangerous weapon that will make all the Rangers disappear forever and give them ultimate control over Sterling City. Alex is fine with that idea until one fateful day it makes the big mistake of saving one of the Rangers, a good-looking girl his age who is a shapeshifter. Now he’s having second thought about being a supervillain. Will Alex stay true to his family heritage or will choose to side with the heroes?

The characters are likable and well-rounded, a surprising trait for supervillains. The relationship between Alex and Kirbie is romantic without putting off boys. The plot could move a little faster, but the intrigue and humor between the characters keeps the reader’s interest. Readers who like superpowers, villains, and saving the world will enjoy reading this book.
