Grace lives next door to her best
friend Mimi. Mimi is
waiting for a new baby sister that her parents are trying to adopt. Everyday Mimi waits until the last
minute to go to school, in case her parents get the phone call. Mimi and Grace come up with all sorts
of plans for the new baby sister, but when Mimi finally goes to get her sister,
she returns with a three year old brother. Mimi’s disappointment about not having a sister is
eventually overcome when she realizes that her new brother, Robert, is fun and
that he loves her too. A subplot
throughout the book is that Grace gets a new girl dog, Mr. Scruffers. Grace explains all the reasons she
loves taking care of her dog.
I
like all the books in the Just Grace series because the characters have good
values. Grace is a good friend who
is patient with Mimi when she is grumpy or distracted. Grace is also empathetic and a problem
solver. I think this book is a
good book for girls in the 2nd-4th grade.
There are lots of simple drawings to illustrate the story.
